The Bible tells us in Matthew 7:24-27 that a house with a strong foundation will stay strong during a storm.

This is part of the core principle of Mom’s for Wellington and is exactly what we do when we work with the children.

We take them under our wings and help lay the foundation of God’s love in their lives.

This month we again had the privilege to share with the kids the celebration of Ascension Day. Jesus’s resurrection from death, His ascension to heaven and His outpouring of the Holy Spirit. With an exciting lesson and the releasing of balloons into the air, we tried to create an effective image in the eyes of a child of what happened on Ascension Day. The balloons were the symbol of Jesus’s ascension to heaven.

There are currently a group of 47 community volunteers who help us with the children’s ministry on Mondays and Wednesdays. These volunteers range from moms to grandmothers as well as aunts with big hearts for Jesus and His gospel. We currently have a large group of 159 children that form part of this program.
We give them food and love, wash their hands, hug them, sing and dance with them, and most importantly, we serve them with the gospel of Jesus and His love.

Put your glasses on and see…. There is one thing we all have in common: we all want to be happy! And as I recently referred to again, the biggest key to happiness is GRATEFULNESS!
Gratitude opens our eyes and forces us to see the world through different glasses. It helps you see what you already have received and how much you already have to be thankful for. Gratitude brings HOPE, and hope brings JOY!
Our crazed and busy lifestyle forces us to run, just to stay ahead. It prevents us from stopping for a moment to say thank you.
A grateful heart opens our eyes to truly be able to see! In and around Wellington I see God’s wonderful gift all around us every day:

The mountains that embraces us,
Friends and strangers greeting us back with a smile on the streets and in the shops,
Happy and fortunate kids that are privileged to be able to grow up in the countryside,
The freedom to talk about God’s goodness and grace around a “braai” fire,
friends that care,
rain that brings new life, and
people with open hearts who are always willing to help where help is needed.
Psalm 8:3 says that when we praise the Lord, even our enemies have nothing to say. There is tremendous power in gratitude! Praise the Lord for His goodness. It will open your eyes and give you a life where you can see hope and prosperity.

vriende in my lewe wat omgee,

Daar is geweldige krag in dankbaar wees!

Paarl Post has visited our children’s ministry in Blignautstraat, New Rest. They spoiled the children with new toys and snacks. Importantly they gave their time to the children – playing, drawing and colouring. This donation by Paarl Post was made possible thanks to the annual donations from the public to the PAARL POST-CHRISMAS FUND.

Paarl Post het vandeesweek besoek afgelê by ons kinderbediening in Blignautstraat, New Rest.

His name is Michael. He is a handsome little boy, well dressed with impeccable manners. Michael attracts my attention because he never participates in any of our activities. When I arrive at school early in the morning, he is usually already seated and waiting for the day to start. While all the other children are laughing and playing on the jungle gym, he just sits there waiting. When we direct our songs to God, dancing, jumping and clapping our hands, Michael just sits. That marked the start of my one-sided relationship with Michael.

I often seek him out amongst the children and blow a kiss at him. I hug him countless times with his arms limp at his sides. I compliment him when he creates something special with the building blocks, but it seems as if he just doesn’t hear me.

Then, one day we go about our business of learning about God. We sing and dance. We read and eat delicious food. When the children go home, I wait at the small gate for my one final superstar kiss goodbye. All the children are standing in front of me and we share hugs, kisses and laughs. The group in front of me grows smaller and finally, Michael is standing in front of me. He has his little hand in front of his mouth, ready to give me a superstar kiss.

God Almighty! That is all that I could say. God’s goodness knows no limits. It was the best superstar kiss ever! I grabbed Michael’s little body and hugged him so hard that I worried about squashing him. I’ve made a difference in Michael’s life. To top it all, God used Michael to make a difference in my life. A lesson of love, which never grows tired. Love that doesn’t know prejudice. Unconditional love. The love that Jesus has for me!

We at Moms-for-Wellington believe that feeding our children’s brains is of utmost importance. Good stories are magical and assists the kids in developing their creativity. It is so uplifting when the community steps in and assists in this way.
Today schools, companies, private donators as well as the Mayor from Drakenstein stood together to help our kids create a better future.

Dr. Thys Smith director for the Kinderland Trust and the Marketer for Gerrie Smith’s new children’s book “Stories vir Pikkies en Peuters” took the initiative and give each of the kids at Moms-for-Wellington a sample of this new book. Honored Guests, Mr. Conrad Poole, Mayor of Drakenstein, Mrs. Liaquet Ahmed from Wellington Paint & Hardware and Michelle Cooper from Tafelberg Publishers were present when these beautiful books were handed to the kids.

Ilse Human, Principal of the “Kinderland Skool & Akedemie” read one of the stories from the book to the kids, and afterwards the kids were entertained by Kinderland’s very own hilarious Clowns Hansie & Worsie, and they explained to the kids that it is very important to respect all books.

Whether books are read to the kids or they just sit and page through a big picture book, story time in the Moms-for-Wellington program is a highlight in the kids’ day.

Whilst reading our kids are taught values and how it will feel to walk in someone else’s shoes. Reading assists the kids in developing a better memory and vocabulary, it helps them to think critically and logically, and improve their concept skills.
We want to thank the Wellington community for enriching these kids lives in this remarkable manner. Our wish is that every child will hear a story every day.
