He lived as a man, without sin, blessing us with His life, and sacrificed Himself as the perfect Lamb, the ultimate offering for our sins. Through Him, we can all have eternal life in His kingdom.

This is the message—not chocolates, not bunnies, not eggs—but a perfect offering that washes away our sins.

It is a challenging concept to explain, especially to small children and to our Avodah members with intellectual disabilities. Yet each of our programs tailored the story to ensure the Good News of Jesus was shared clearly.

If you do not yet know this story, join us on this journey—from a King traveling to Jerusalem on a humble donkey, to the Last Supper, washing of feet, His time in Gethsemane, to the capture, trial, and crucifixion. The truth of every part of this story is significant for every Christian, because this is the truth of our Savior.

WOW Day 2026 – Searching Our Hearts as We Serve

As the new year begins, WOW – Women of Worth gathered for a powerful and meaningful start to 2026. More than 55 women and men who faithfully serve the communities of Hillcrest and Newrest came together with one shared purpose: to align our hearts with God before stepping into another year of service.

This gathering is more than just an event. It is a moment of reflection, realignment, and renewal. Before we pour into others, we pause and ask God to examine our own hearts.

The theme for 2026 is rooted in the prayer found in Psalm 139:23–24:

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”

This verse invites us into a posture of humility and openness before God. As those who serve vulnerable communities, we recognize that our work must flow from hearts that are continually shaped by Him.

During the gathering, Stephanie shared a powerful message about God as the Gardener of our hearts. She reminded us that God’s heart is not distant or removed. Instead, He is actively involved in the love, healing, and restoration of people.

God’s heart is marked by unconditional love, holiness, deep compassion, and perfect justice. He is eternal, faithful, merciful, and full of grace toward those who turn to Him. And above all, God is holy.

Just like a gardener tends to a garden, God tends to our hearts.

A gardener never stops caring for the garden. In the same way, God is constantly working in us.

He prunes us so that we can grow.
He turns the soil to prepare our hearts.
He adds nourishment through His Word.
He waters and protects us through His Spirit.

Pruning can sometimes be uncomfortable, but it is always done with purpose. When we listen to God’s Word and His Spirit, and when we follow in obedience, our lives become pleasing and acceptable to Him.

Our obedience becomes a visible expression of our love for God.

And when that happens, growth follows.

Growth in character.
Growth in faith.
Growth in compassion.
Growth in the way we serve others.

As we move forward into 2026, we commit to serving with humility, unity, and hearts that remain open to God’s refining work. When our hearts are aligned with His, our service becomes more than work — it becomes a reflection of His love in the communities we serve.

Measuring What Matters: How We Track Real Change in Families’ Lives

At Ma’s vir Wellington, we believe that meaningful impact goes far beyond numbers. While it is important to know how many children participate in our programmes, what truly matters is the difference being made in their lives and in the wellbeing of their families.

This is why we use Wellbi, a comprehensive digital assessment platform designed specifically for organisations that care for vulnerable children and families. Wellbi provides a structured and reliable way for organisations to measure wellbeing and track progress over time.

The platform includes a standard assessment for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), developed in collaboration with universities and based on the internationally recognised Child Status Index (CSI) framework. This evidence-based approach allows organisations to assess children’s wellbeing across key areas of life and identify where support is most needed. In addition, Wellbi allows organisations to create customised assessments tailored to their specific programmes and community needs.

Why This Matters for Our Work

Every year, new children join our Children’s Ministry programme. At the start of the year, with parental consent, we conduct a baseline Wellbi assessment for the whole family. This helps us gain a clearer understanding of each child’s environment and circumstances from the very beginning.

During the first term, our three fieldworkers visit more than 50 families in their homes. These personal visits allow us to ask questions across four important domains that help us build a fuller picture of each family’s wellbeing.

Once the information is captured in the Wellbi system, the data is displayed visually on a dashboard. This allows our team to see where families may need additional support. From there, we can track interventions, referrals, and progress over time, ensuring that families receive the help they need.

Supporting Better Planning and Accountability

From a management perspective, Wellbi provides an organisational dashboard that gives us a bird’s-eye view of the wellbeing of the families we serve. It also allows us to securely store documentation, track programme attendance, monitor absentees, and record the work completed by our team.

This information helps us plan better, respond faster, and remain accountable to the communities we serve as well as to our supporters and funders.

Collaboration for Greater Impact

Platforms like Wellbi remind us how important collaboration within the NGO sector truly is. Meyer Conradie and his team developed Wellbi to provide organisations with a digital tool that helps keep accurate records, generate meaningful statistics, and share measurable impact with funders.

Most importantly, the data helps organisations like ours identify real needs and secure the resources required to continue supporting vulnerable children and families.

To learn more about Wellbi, click the link below.

https://wellbi.io/

“Our vision is to help organisations move beyond counting the number of beneficiaries they serve, and instead quantify the change they are effecting in people’s lives.” – Meyer Conradie, CEO of Wellbi.

“Don’t Drop the Ball”: Walking the Parenting Journey Together

Each year, as new families join our Children’s Ministry, we are given the beautiful opportunity to start fresh relationships with mothers, fathers, and grandparents.

The little ones arrive bright-eyed. Some are excited, some shy, and some hold tightly to a parent’s hand as they step into a new environment. The parents feel much the same. Some arrive confident, others nervous, and a few are familiar faces—parents enrolling their third or fourth child in our programme over the years.

Our parenting sessions always begin with something simple and playful: a group activity where parents form a circle and pass a ball from person to person without using their hands.

The exercise quickly fills the room with laughter—but it also carries an important message.

The ball represents a child. Throughout life, children move from one caregiver to another, from parent to teacher, from family to community. At times the journey is smooth, and at times it is challenging. But the message remains the same:

Do not drop the ball.

Every child is precious—fearfully and wonderfully made—and it is our shared responsibility to care for them as they grow through the stages of childhood and school.

Building the Foundations for Healthy Families

During our introduction session, Salome guided parents through the basics of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, a well-known framework that explains how human wellbeing is built layer by layer.

Maslow described five levels of needs that shape human development:

Basic needs – food, rest, shelter and physical care

Safety – stability, protection and emotional security

Love and belonging – family relationships, friendships and acceptance

Esteem – confidence, dignity and feeling valued

Self-actualisation – reaching one’s potential and pursuing)

Research suggests that in everyday life people often have their basic needs about 85% satisfied, safety about 70%, belonging about 50%, esteem about 40%, and only a small portion—around 10%—reach the level of self-actualisation at any given time.

This reminds us how important the foundations of life are. When children feel safe, loved, and valued, they are far more likely to grow into healthy adults who can dream, learn, and contribute positively to their communities.

Honest Conversations with Parents

Parents spent time reflecting together and discussing important questions:

Which needs in the Maslow triangle are most important in raising a child?

How do we care for our own wellbeing as parents?

Are our homes and communities emotionally safe spaces for children?

Do our children feel loved and secure?

These conversations opened meaningful discussions about emotional safety, trust, and healthy attachment—all essential elements in a child’s development.

Although we only scratched the surface in this first session, it is the beginning of an eight-session parenting journey we will walk together throughout the year.

Walking the Journey Together

Parenting is never meant to be done alone. Through these sessions, we hope every family will feel supported, encouraged, and equipped for the important role they play in shaping young lives.

Together, we hold the ball.

And together, we will do our best not to drop it.

Welcoming our new ECD teacher

We are excited to welcome a new Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher to our team at Mas vir Wellington. Her journey with us began as a volunteer, and through dedication, growth, and a deep love for working with children, she has now stepped into this new role. Here she shares a little about her journey.

My daughter, Shaunica, was first part of Mas vir Wellington. The late Auntie Sarie, a former Tannie mamma, would often tell me about the wonderful things they did at Ma’s, and that made me curious to experience it for myself. I then approached Salome to ask if I could get involved. From the very beginning she made me feel comfortable and warmly welcomed.

My first day as a volunteer was a wonderful experience, and I immediately felt like part of the team. I never felt like “just a volunteer” compared to the staff – instead, I always felt included and valued.

My child was part of both the Children’s Ministry and the ECD programme. Today I can clearly see the fruits of that experience. The foundation that was laid, especially through the Amazing Brainz programme offered by Mas vir Wellington, was very informative and meaningful.

Ma’s vir Wellington also provided me with opportunities to attend training and workshops with Amazing Brainz and Inceba. Salome further encouraged me to continue learning, and with her support I enrolled in an online course and successfully completed my Level 4 ECD qualification last year.

I volunteered for two years. It was not always easy, as I also had other responsibilities, but despite the challenges I remain deeply grateful for the opportunity that was given to me. Through this journey I learned so much and experienced tremendous personal and professional growth.

During this time my relationship with God also grew stronger, and my relationships with the staff at Mas vir Wellington deepened. My relationship with my principal has also improved greatly, and today we share a very good understanding.

I truly feel loved and blessed to be part of this team, and I look forward to continuing this journey together.

We are grateful to have her as part of the Mas vir Wellington family and look forward to the impact she will continue to make in the lives of our children.

2026 — We Welcome You

As we step into 2026, we do so with intention and reverence. More than new plans or new strategies, this year begins with the condition of our hearts. What will we bring to the table? What are we willing to lay down before God?

Scripture reminds us of Abraham, who took his son up the mountain in obedience, trusting God in what seemed like an impossible situation. Abraham did not know the outcome, but he knew the character of God. And on that mountain, God revealed Himself as Yahweh Yireh — The Lord Who Provides. God will provide.

As we begin this year, we choose to align our hearts with the heart of God. It is important is to set goals before a year starts, but even more important to surrender those goals to Him. In 2026, we trust God to go before us, to lead us, and to shape our character so that we continue to do His will — not our own.

This process will not always be easy. Like pruning a fruit tree, shaping it so that it may bear more fruit, there may be seasons of cutting, refining, and letting go. Pruning is never comfortable, but it is always necessary. God is not a God of small dreams. His plans are far greater than ours, and He knows exactly what must be removed so that true fruit can grow.

We trust that there will be a season of pruning, followed by a season of harvest. But this harvest is not for the glory of Ma’s vir Wellington. It is for the glory of God. A harvest that advances His Kingdom. A harvest that brings light into areas where lawlessness and witchcraft have long reigned. A harvest where the love of God floods the hearts of fathers and mothers, restoring families and renewing communities.

As we walk into this year together, may we do so with surrendered hearts, obedient spirits, and unshakable trust in the God who provides. May everything we do in 2026 reflect Him — His love, His power, and His purpose.

Yahweh Yireh — God will provide.

Partnering to Ensure No Child Goes Hungry

As our programs close for almost five weeks, it becomes even more important to ensure that our children and Avodah members continue to have the security of food. Data collected through the Wellbi App shows a critical and persistent need for food support:

60 families reported food and nutrition challenges, with 46 facing food insecurity.

41 families indicated they do not have enough food regularly, relying on limited or inconsistent sources.

Only 1 family reported sufficient daily meals, highlighting the severity of need.

During program breaks, many children and families face hunger and nutritional risk, which directly impacts growth, health, and overall well-being. Consistent support is essential to protect children’s development and ease stress on families during these times.

We are grateful for partners who lighten our hands and extend care to the community. Delia van Wyk, owner of Nanna D’s Projects, provides three healthy cooked meals a week to our beneficiaries and families in the surrounding area, sometimes feeding more than 200, even 300 individuals. Nanna D’s also serves as a collection point for families needing basic items like baby supplies, clothes, or shoes.

This partnership is a beautiful example of how NGOs and community members can come together to ensure no child goes hungry. At Ma’s vir Wellington, we believe in the power of taking hands—working together to meet urgent needs, share resources, and care for families in meaningful ways.

This year sparked a deep season of soul-searching among our staff—individually and collectively. What emerged was remarkable unity. Despite significant transitions, including changes in our Board and management structure, the team came together with one heart and purpose.

We also journeyed together through a seven-part course on forgiveness, reflecting on the sacrifice of Christ and the power of His grace. Many confronted personal challenges, extended forgiveness, and experienced breakthrough. We witnessed miracles, healing, and spiritual renewal. Truly, God was at work among us.

Even in moments of uncertainty, God provided—sometimes in ways nothing short of supernatural. When funding was unclear, His provision carried us. We stand today because He built this house; without Him, our efforts would be in vain.

This year, in a spirit of unity, Ma’s vir Wellington made a special decision: to bring all four of our programs together—Children’s Ministry, ECD, Avodah, and our Volunteers—for one united Christmas celebration to present the story of Jesus:

• how He came from heaven to earth as a baby,
• how He lived among us as a man,
• and how He gave His life on the cross so that we may one day live with Him in His Kingdom.

It was a joy-filled event made even more meaningful as we returned to Colibri Hall, the very place where our journey began 19 years ago. To stand together in that same hall—children, staff, volunteers, and families—worshipping and celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, was deeply moving.

The celebration also reminded us that Jesus did not remain a baby in a manger. He grew, He lived a perfect life, and He became the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, for us to join Him one day in His Kingdom, of light. This truth resonated beautifully throughout the program.

This year, our children continued to flourish. We saw little ones who were once shy or unable to speak stand proudly as they received their graduation certificates. As five of our Avodah members completed their time with us, five new members were welcomed into a space where they can belong, grow, and thrive.

Through your generosity, we were able to bless 50 children with school shoes, bags, and essential items to help them begin their school careers with dignity and hope.

As we close this year, we extend our deepest gratitude:

To God, our source, strength, and sustainer.

To our Board, for their leadership and wisdom.

To our dedicated staff, who serve with compassion and excellence.

To our 40 volunteers, whose time, love, and sacrifice strengthen our mission.

And to you—our funders, sponsors, and partners—whose generosity makes every impact possible.

Your partnership has carried us through another year of meaningful, life-changing work. Because of your faithfulness, 50 children are stepping into their future with hope, 60 3–4-year-old children could start their foundation strong, and 20 Avodah members, had a place where they can belong, experience God’s love.

Thank you for your obedience, generosity, and belief in the mission of Ma’s vir Wellington. May the Lord’s favour rest upon you as we enter a new year filled with expectation and purpose.

Executive Director,

Salomé Langmann

2025 has truly been a year of new seasons, change, growth, and pruning for Ma’s vir Wellington.

During the third quarter, from our Board right through to every staff member, we took time to pause and reflect deeply on what servant leadership really means. Working in community is never easy—but we continue to stand on God’s Word, knowing that we are His hands and feet, building into His Kingdom, not our own.

As Psalm 127:1 reminds us,

“Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labour in vain.”

As a team, we went back to basics—evaluating ourselves as a Board, as a team, and as individuals—to ensure that we remain aligned with Ma’s vir Wellington’s vision:

To create an atmosphere of God’s love where people can experience and know Him.

The Board and ExCom also revisited our core values and made some policy adjustments to ensure that in everything we do, we stay true to them—placing Jesus at the centre, treating all people with love and respect, working in unity, and remaining trustworthy and accountable for all that God has placed in our hands.

With this heart, we hosted our Annual General Meeting, which was a beautiful and well-attended gathering. Parents from both our Children’s Ministry and Avodah Program, along with our volunteers, joined us in a full house. We took the time to share our 2024 – 2025 statistics, explain why we make certain decisions, and outline our plans for the future.

It was a fruitful and transparent session that helped clear up any misconceptions about what we do and where we serve. Parents had the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts, reinforcing the importance of open communication in our community. Misunderstandings can easily arise, but together, we were able to reaffirm our purpose and vision for Carterville and New Rest.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my team and our Board for their grace, patience, and commitment during this time of small but meaningful changes—changes that I believe will bear great fruit in the seasons to come.

As we look forward to the final quarter of this year, I am filled with hope and gratitude.
God is good, and His unfailing love endures forever.

With love,
Salome Langmann
Chief Executive Officer

Two years ago, Desreé heard Avodah being featured on Radio KC. At that time, she was desperately searching for a place where her daughter, Lee-Ann—who has Down Syndrome—could belong. There was no permanent placement available for her at APD in Paarl, and Desreé began to pray and fast, asking the Lord to open a door for Lee-Ann to join a programme for intellectually disabled adults.

God answered her prayer. Today, Lee-Ann is part of the Avodah family, where she learns, creates, and is loved for who she is. For Desreé, this has been life-changing. It allows her a few hours each day to attend Bible study, do her shopping, or clean her home—simple things that are often impossible when caring full-time for a special needs child.

Life has not been easy for them. After being evicted from their home in Paarl, they now live in a small temporary house in New Orleans Park without permanent water or toilets, waiting for their HOP home from the Drakenstein Municipality. Yet, through all these challenges, Desreé remains deeply grateful. She often shares how thankful she is that God provided Avodah—a safe, loving place for Lee-Ann and a source of hope and support for her as a mother.

“Avodah is truly an answer to my prayers,” Desreé says. “It means the world to know that Lee-Ann is cared for, growing, and happy. I can finally breathe again.”

Daisy Day 2025: Let Hope Grow

Daisy Day is always a highlight in the life of Ma’s vir Wellington, and this year was no exception. Rooted in our mission to celebrate the unique gifts of people with intellectual disabilities, Daisy Day reminds us to focus not on limitations, but on abilities — and to help each person flourish in the way God created them.

Under this year’s theme, “Let Hope Grow,” our week was filled with community outreaches, relationship-building, and prayer. Together, we created space for joy, belonging, and hope. Each of our members was celebrated in a special way, affirming their value and purpose.

At a time when facilities for people with intellectual disabilities are closing their doors, Avodah continues to stand firm as a safe place of acceptance, growth, and meaning. Daisy Day helps us share this vision with the wider community. Through the simple act of buying and wearing a Daisy sticker, individuals across Paarl Valley joined us in planting seeds of hope — and together, we watched our valley bloom with compassion.

The outcome of this year’s Daisy Day was far more than a fundraiser: it was a visible wave of support. Local schools, businesses, and community members wore yellow, shared encouragement online, and proudly carried the message that every person matters. We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood with us — your kindness makes our work possible.

As we close this year’s Daisy Day, our hearts are full of gratitude and hope. Thank you for helping us witness God’s goodness in action.

If you’d like to be part of this outreach in 2026, please contact surette@masvirwellington.co.za

Click the link below to watch our daisy day video

<iframe title="Daisy day 2025. At that time, she was desperately searching for a place where her daughter, Lee-Ann—who has Down Syndrome—could belong.

Seeds of Serving

In April 2025, the Newrest community was devastated by a fire. On that very Sunday, Delia van Wyk—known to all as Aunty D of Nanna D’s Projects—was the first to call Ma’s vir Wellington. That call marked the beginning of a journey where Delia served her community tirelessly for three months.

With extraordinary courage and compassion, Aunty D stepped in as the lead organizer and coordinator, overseeing the sorting and distribution of a warehouse full of donations. Through her leadership, help reached more than 1,950 individuals and 600 families affected by the fire.

All the while, Delia carried the heavy burden of caring for her husband, Aubrey, who was terminally ill with kidney failure. Despite his illness, Aubrey stood faithfully beside her in the work until the very last home was served. Together, even in their personal struggle, they gave selflessly to others.

We at Ma’s vir Wellington honor Delia for her servant heart—towards her community, her late husband, her children, and her family. Aubrey passed away three months ago, but his touch and vision remain alive in Delia’s hands. Their shared dream was to establish a full-time soup kitchen: a place where children could come for a warm meal, and where families could receive shoes, clothing, or a blanket through community support.

Today, we are proud to say that Nanna D’s Projects are officially sponsored and endorsed by Ma’s vir Wellington. We will continue to stand with Delia, so that she can continue to serve her community in honor of Aubrey’s legacy.

As her vision declares: “Nurture and protect our future.”

Call to Action

You can help bring Aubrey and Delia’s dream to life. Join us in setting up a fully registered soup kitchen that will serve as a beacon of hope for families in need.

Contact Ma’s vir Wellington to partner with us, donate, or volunteer today. Together, we can nurture and protect our future.

Seeff recently launched a special initiative to recognise remarkable women making a difference in the Wellington community. Four inspiring women were nominated: Retha Stigant (Lions Club), Elani Graham (Wellington SPCA), Este Laubser (Silwerkruin Bejaardesorg), and our very own Cornel de Beer from Ma’s vir Wellington.

We are delighted to share that Cornel de Beer has been named Remarkable Woman of the Year! Her unwavering dedication, compassion, and the love she pours into Ma’s vir Wellington are a true blessing to many.

A heartfelt thank you to Cornel for the incredible role she plays, and to Seeff for celebrating women who impact our community in such meaningful ways. We are deeply grateful!
