He lived as a man, without sin, blessing us with His life, and sacrificed Himself as the perfect Lamb, the ultimate offering for our sins. Through Him, we can all have eternal life in His kingdom.

This is the message—not chocolates, not bunnies, not eggs—but a perfect offering that washes away our sins.

It is a challenging concept to explain, especially to small children and to our Avodah members with intellectual disabilities. Yet each of our programs tailored the story to ensure the Good News of Jesus was shared clearly.

If you do not yet know this story, join us on this journey—from a King traveling to Jerusalem on a humble donkey, to the Last Supper, washing of feet, His time in Gethsemane, to the capture, trial, and crucifixion. The truth of every part of this story is significant for every Christian, because this is the truth of our Savior.

WOW Day 2026 – Searching Our Hearts as We Serve

As the new year begins, WOW – Women of Worth gathered for a powerful and meaningful start to 2026. More than 55 women and men who faithfully serve the communities of Hillcrest and Newrest came together with one shared purpose: to align our hearts with God before stepping into another year of service.

This gathering is more than just an event. It is a moment of reflection, realignment, and renewal. Before we pour into others, we pause and ask God to examine our own hearts.

The theme for 2026 is rooted in the prayer found in Psalm 139:23–24:

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”

This verse invites us into a posture of humility and openness before God. As those who serve vulnerable communities, we recognize that our work must flow from hearts that are continually shaped by Him.

During the gathering, Stephanie shared a powerful message about God as the Gardener of our hearts. She reminded us that God’s heart is not distant or removed. Instead, He is actively involved in the love, healing, and restoration of people.

God’s heart is marked by unconditional love, holiness, deep compassion, and perfect justice. He is eternal, faithful, merciful, and full of grace toward those who turn to Him. And above all, God is holy.

Just like a gardener tends to a garden, God tends to our hearts.

A gardener never stops caring for the garden. In the same way, God is constantly working in us.

He prunes us so that we can grow.
He turns the soil to prepare our hearts.
He adds nourishment through His Word.
He waters and protects us through His Spirit.

Pruning can sometimes be uncomfortable, but it is always done with purpose. When we listen to God’s Word and His Spirit, and when we follow in obedience, our lives become pleasing and acceptable to Him.

Our obedience becomes a visible expression of our love for God.

And when that happens, growth follows.

Growth in character.
Growth in faith.
Growth in compassion.
Growth in the way we serve others.

As we move forward into 2026, we commit to serving with humility, unity, and hearts that remain open to God’s refining work. When our hearts are aligned with His, our service becomes more than work — it becomes a reflection of His love in the communities we serve.

Measuring What Matters: How We Track Real Change in Families’ Lives

At Ma’s vir Wellington, we believe that meaningful impact goes far beyond numbers. While it is important to know how many children participate in our programmes, what truly matters is the difference being made in their lives and in the wellbeing of their families.

This is why we use Wellbi, a comprehensive digital assessment platform designed specifically for organisations that care for vulnerable children and families. Wellbi provides a structured and reliable way for organisations to measure wellbeing and track progress over time.

The platform includes a standard assessment for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), developed in collaboration with universities and based on the internationally recognised Child Status Index (CSI) framework. This evidence-based approach allows organisations to assess children’s wellbeing across key areas of life and identify where support is most needed. In addition, Wellbi allows organisations to create customised assessments tailored to their specific programmes and community needs.

Why This Matters for Our Work

Every year, new children join our Children’s Ministry programme. At the start of the year, with parental consent, we conduct a baseline Wellbi assessment for the whole family. This helps us gain a clearer understanding of each child’s environment and circumstances from the very beginning.

During the first term, our three fieldworkers visit more than 50 families in their homes. These personal visits allow us to ask questions across four important domains that help us build a fuller picture of each family’s wellbeing.

Once the information is captured in the Wellbi system, the data is displayed visually on a dashboard. This allows our team to see where families may need additional support. From there, we can track interventions, referrals, and progress over time, ensuring that families receive the help they need.

Supporting Better Planning and Accountability

From a management perspective, Wellbi provides an organisational dashboard that gives us a bird’s-eye view of the wellbeing of the families we serve. It also allows us to securely store documentation, track programme attendance, monitor absentees, and record the work completed by our team.

This information helps us plan better, respond faster, and remain accountable to the communities we serve as well as to our supporters and funders.

Collaboration for Greater Impact

Platforms like Wellbi remind us how important collaboration within the NGO sector truly is. Meyer Conradie and his team developed Wellbi to provide organisations with a digital tool that helps keep accurate records, generate meaningful statistics, and share measurable impact with funders.

Most importantly, the data helps organisations like ours identify real needs and secure the resources required to continue supporting vulnerable children and families.

To learn more about Wellbi, click the link below.

https://wellbi.io/

“Our vision is to help organisations move beyond counting the number of beneficiaries they serve, and instead quantify the change they are effecting in people’s lives.” – Meyer Conradie, CEO of Wellbi.

“Don’t Drop the Ball”: Walking the Parenting Journey Together

Each year, as new families join our Children’s Ministry, we are given the beautiful opportunity to start fresh relationships with mothers, fathers, and grandparents.

The little ones arrive bright-eyed. Some are excited, some shy, and some hold tightly to a parent’s hand as they step into a new environment. The parents feel much the same. Some arrive confident, others nervous, and a few are familiar faces—parents enrolling their third or fourth child in our programme over the years.

Our parenting sessions always begin with something simple and playful: a group activity where parents form a circle and pass a ball from person to person without using their hands.

The exercise quickly fills the room with laughter—but it also carries an important message.

The ball represents a child. Throughout life, children move from one caregiver to another, from parent to teacher, from family to community. At times the journey is smooth, and at times it is challenging. But the message remains the same:

Do not drop the ball.

Every child is precious—fearfully and wonderfully made—and it is our shared responsibility to care for them as they grow through the stages of childhood and school.

Building the Foundations for Healthy Families

During our introduction session, Salome guided parents through the basics of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, a well-known framework that explains how human wellbeing is built layer by layer.

Maslow described five levels of needs that shape human development:

Basic needs – food, rest, shelter and physical care

Safety – stability, protection and emotional security

Love and belonging – family relationships, friendships and acceptance

Esteem – confidence, dignity and feeling valued

Self-actualisation – reaching one’s potential and pursuing)

Research suggests that in everyday life people often have their basic needs about 85% satisfied, safety about 70%, belonging about 50%, esteem about 40%, and only a small portion—around 10%—reach the level of self-actualisation at any given time.

This reminds us how important the foundations of life are. When children feel safe, loved, and valued, they are far more likely to grow into healthy adults who can dream, learn, and contribute positively to their communities.

Honest Conversations with Parents

Parents spent time reflecting together and discussing important questions:

Which needs in the Maslow triangle are most important in raising a child?

How do we care for our own wellbeing as parents?

Are our homes and communities emotionally safe spaces for children?

Do our children feel loved and secure?

These conversations opened meaningful discussions about emotional safety, trust, and healthy attachment—all essential elements in a child’s development.

Although we only scratched the surface in this first session, it is the beginning of an eight-session parenting journey we will walk together throughout the year.

Walking the Journey Together

Parenting is never meant to be done alone. Through these sessions, we hope every family will feel supported, encouraged, and equipped for the important role they play in shaping young lives.

Together, we hold the ball.

And together, we will do our best not to drop it.

Welcoming our new ECD teacher

We are excited to welcome a new Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher to our team at Mas vir Wellington. Her journey with us began as a volunteer, and through dedication, growth, and a deep love for working with children, she has now stepped into this new role. Here she shares a little about her journey.

My daughter, Shaunica, was first part of Mas vir Wellington. The late Auntie Sarie, a former Tannie mamma, would often tell me about the wonderful things they did at Ma’s, and that made me curious to experience it for myself. I then approached Salome to ask if I could get involved. From the very beginning she made me feel comfortable and warmly welcomed.

My first day as a volunteer was a wonderful experience, and I immediately felt like part of the team. I never felt like “just a volunteer” compared to the staff – instead, I always felt included and valued.

My child was part of both the Children’s Ministry and the ECD programme. Today I can clearly see the fruits of that experience. The foundation that was laid, especially through the Amazing Brainz programme offered by Mas vir Wellington, was very informative and meaningful.

Ma’s vir Wellington also provided me with opportunities to attend training and workshops with Amazing Brainz and Inceba. Salome further encouraged me to continue learning, and with her support I enrolled in an online course and successfully completed my Level 4 ECD qualification last year.

I volunteered for two years. It was not always easy, as I also had other responsibilities, but despite the challenges I remain deeply grateful for the opportunity that was given to me. Through this journey I learned so much and experienced tremendous personal and professional growth.

During this time my relationship with God also grew stronger, and my relationships with the staff at Mas vir Wellington deepened. My relationship with my principal has also improved greatly, and today we share a very good understanding.

I truly feel loved and blessed to be part of this team, and I look forward to continuing this journey together.

We are grateful to have her as part of the Mas vir Wellington family and look forward to the impact she will continue to make in the lives of our children.

2026 — We Welcome You

As we step into 2026, we do so with intention and reverence. More than new plans or new strategies, this year begins with the condition of our hearts. What will we bring to the table? What are we willing to lay down before God?

Scripture reminds us of Abraham, who took his son up the mountain in obedience, trusting God in what seemed like an impossible situation. Abraham did not know the outcome, but he knew the character of God. And on that mountain, God revealed Himself as Yahweh Yireh — The Lord Who Provides. God will provide.

As we begin this year, we choose to align our hearts with the heart of God. It is important is to set goals before a year starts, but even more important to surrender those goals to Him. In 2026, we trust God to go before us, to lead us, and to shape our character so that we continue to do His will — not our own.

This process will not always be easy. Like pruning a fruit tree, shaping it so that it may bear more fruit, there may be seasons of cutting, refining, and letting go. Pruning is never comfortable, but it is always necessary. God is not a God of small dreams. His plans are far greater than ours, and He knows exactly what must be removed so that true fruit can grow.

We trust that there will be a season of pruning, followed by a season of harvest. But this harvest is not for the glory of Ma’s vir Wellington. It is for the glory of God. A harvest that advances His Kingdom. A harvest that brings light into areas where lawlessness and witchcraft have long reigned. A harvest where the love of God floods the hearts of fathers and mothers, restoring families and renewing communities.

As we walk into this year together, may we do so with surrendered hearts, obedient spirits, and unshakable trust in the God who provides. May everything we do in 2026 reflect Him — His love, His power, and His purpose.

Yahweh Yireh — God will provide.

Partnering to Ensure No Child Goes Hungry

As our programs close for almost five weeks, it becomes even more important to ensure that our children and Avodah members continue to have the security of food. Data collected through the Wellbi App shows a critical and persistent need for food support:

60 families reported food and nutrition challenges, with 46 facing food insecurity.

41 families indicated they do not have enough food regularly, relying on limited or inconsistent sources.

Only 1 family reported sufficient daily meals, highlighting the severity of need.

During program breaks, many children and families face hunger and nutritional risk, which directly impacts growth, health, and overall well-being. Consistent support is essential to protect children’s development and ease stress on families during these times.

We are grateful for partners who lighten our hands and extend care to the community. Delia van Wyk, owner of Nanna D’s Projects, provides three healthy cooked meals a week to our beneficiaries and families in the surrounding area, sometimes feeding more than 200, even 300 individuals. Nanna D’s also serves as a collection point for families needing basic items like baby supplies, clothes, or shoes.

This partnership is a beautiful example of how NGOs and community members can come together to ensure no child goes hungry. At Ma’s vir Wellington, we believe in the power of taking hands—working together to meet urgent needs, share resources, and care for families in meaningful ways.

This year sparked a deep season of soul-searching among our staff—individually and collectively. What emerged was remarkable unity. Despite significant transitions, including changes in our Board and management structure, the team came together with one heart and purpose.

We also journeyed together through a seven-part course on forgiveness, reflecting on the sacrifice of Christ and the power of His grace. Many confronted personal challenges, extended forgiveness, and experienced breakthrough. We witnessed miracles, healing, and spiritual renewal. Truly, God was at work among us.

Even in moments of uncertainty, God provided—sometimes in ways nothing short of supernatural. When funding was unclear, His provision carried us. We stand today because He built this house; without Him, our efforts would be in vain.

This year, in a spirit of unity, Ma’s vir Wellington made a special decision: to bring all four of our programs together—Children’s Ministry, ECD, Avodah, and our Volunteers—for one united Christmas celebration to present the story of Jesus:

• how He came from heaven to earth as a baby,
• how He lived among us as a man,
• and how He gave His life on the cross so that we may one day live with Him in His Kingdom.

It was a joy-filled event made even more meaningful as we returned to Colibri Hall, the very place where our journey began 19 years ago. To stand together in that same hall—children, staff, volunteers, and families—worshipping and celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, was deeply moving.

The celebration also reminded us that Jesus did not remain a baby in a manger. He grew, He lived a perfect life, and He became the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, for us to join Him one day in His Kingdom, of light. This truth resonated beautifully throughout the program.

This year, our children continued to flourish. We saw little ones who were once shy or unable to speak stand proudly as they received their graduation certificates. As five of our Avodah members completed their time with us, five new members were welcomed into a space where they can belong, grow, and thrive.

Through your generosity, we were able to bless 50 children with school shoes, bags, and essential items to help them begin their school careers with dignity and hope.

As we close this year, we extend our deepest gratitude:

To God, our source, strength, and sustainer.

To our Board, for their leadership and wisdom.

To our dedicated staff, who serve with compassion and excellence.

To our 40 volunteers, whose time, love, and sacrifice strengthen our mission.

And to you—our funders, sponsors, and partners—whose generosity makes every impact possible.

Your partnership has carried us through another year of meaningful, life-changing work. Because of your faithfulness, 50 children are stepping into their future with hope, 60 3–4-year-old children could start their foundation strong, and 20 Avodah members, had a place where they can belong, experience God’s love.

Thank you for your obedience, generosity, and belief in the mission of Ma’s vir Wellington. May the Lord’s favour rest upon you as we enter a new year filled with expectation and purpose.

Executive Director,

Salomé Langmann

WOW Event – The Power of a Seed

As women, we carry the power to sow seeds of love, joy, strength, and future inheritance into our families, friends, and communities.

This Women’s Month, Ma’s vir Wellington celebrated and honored all our Volunteers—women who, for many years, have faithfully sown into our programs and into the lives of others.

Stephanie reminded us that even if we don’t see the harvest immediately, we can trust that the fruit of seeds planted in our community will appear in God’s perfect timing. Scripture says:

Matthew 13:31–32
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree…”

Even something as small as a mustard seed can make a great impact in God’s Kingdom.

On a beautiful, crisp morning at Langkloof Rose—surrounded by nature, trees, and blooming roses—we were reminded that every seed carries potential. Yet a seed must first die before it can grow, and it needs the right season, temperature, and soil to flourish.

As women, we left the morning with these truths in our hearts:

Sow kindness today, and reap mercy tomorrow.

Sow gratitude today, and reap joy tomorrow.

Sow confrontation in love today, and reap change tomorrow.

Sow listening today, and reap knowledge tomorrow.

Sow honor today, and reap favor tomorrow.

Sow order today, and reap productivity tomorrow.

Each lady went home with a packet of seeds in her hand to plant in her garden—but the greatest seed taken from this morning was a call to action:

Don’t wait for tomorrow—start today. What you sow today will shape the harvest of tomorrow.

1 Corinthians 3:6–7
“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.”

Our role is to plant and to water—but it is God who brings the growth.

Winter Project

Thank You for Wrapping Our Children in More Than Just Warmth

This winter, your generosity did more than just fight off the cold—it made hundreds of hearts feel seen, safe, and loved.

Thanks to your incredible support, every one of the 108 children in our Supersterre Children’s Ministry and Preschool Ministry received their very own brand-new tracksuit, socks, underwear, rain jacket, warm blanket, and sturdy water boots. For many of them, it was the first time they received so many new and useful items at once. A few were also gifted beautifully knitted jerseys—each one handmade with love and care. And to top it off, every single child and adult in our programs received a warm, knitted beanie—a small item that made a big emotional impact.

Our 20 intellectually disabled adults in the Avodah program were equally blessed. Each received a cozy tracksuit, socks, a long-sleeved t-shirt, and a warm blanket—essentials that brought comfort and dignity during the harshest months of the year.

Some of you even reached beyond this year’s programs—you even went the extra mile to bless our volunteers and children from previous years with extra winter clothing. These moments of unexpected generosity reminded us again: we’re surrounded by people who truly care. These gestures reminded us again that the heart behind this work is much bigger than numbers.

And the impact? It went well beyond clothing:

Emotional well-being: For children growing up in hardship, receiving love in such a tangible way builds trust and security. Your support helped them feel valued and cared for.

Cognitive development: With basic needs met, the children could focus, learn, play, and grow—building language, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Social development: Through interaction with peers and mentors in a safe space, children developed the building blocks of good communication and cooperation.

Nutrition and health: Warm clothes and food meant fewer illnesses and more active, engaged learners.

Hope and aspiration: When a child feels safe and noticed, they begin to dream. And thanks to you, many of them now do.

This winter project may be over—but the impact is long-lasting. You’ve invested in futures, in dignity, in joy.

From our entire team—and every little heart (and adult!) that you’ve warmed—thank you for helping us create something beautiful this winter.
You made more than just a difference. You made it personal.

It’s a time when corporate companies and local businesses can experience the simple yet profound impact of sharing a meal, a dance, a song, or witnessing the smile of a child or mother receiving a warm, nourishing plate of food.

This year, we were honoured to have three local businesses partner with us in service. A heartfelt thank you to Pick n Pay Wellington and Festa Restaurant for preparing and serving over 400 meals to our community. Your generosity truly made a difference.

We also extend deep appreciation to Nvirotech, who opened their offices to us. One of our program volunteers had the opportunity to share her moving testimony of what the Lord has done for her and her family through Ma’s vir Wellington. Her story reminded us why we do what we do—and the importance of remaining committed to serving, not just on special days, but consistently and wholeheartedly.

Together, we are sowing seeds of hope and restoration. Thank you to everyone who made this Madiba Day a moment of joy, unity, and purpose.

Your Past Is Not a Liability; It Is your future Degree

A Message from Our New Executive Director

As I step into the role of Executive Director of this incredible ministry, my heart is full—full of humility, passion, and deep gratitude to God. This calling is not something I pursued; it’s something God birthed in me through seasons of brokenness, healing, and preparation.

Having walked through personal loss and the deep wounds of

trauma, I carry a firsthand understanding of what it means to survive, to heal, and to be transformed. These experiences were not in vain. They became the foundation for the vision I now carry: to see trauma-informed care deeply woven into everything we do—directed by Christ’s healing love.

For the past 17 years, I’ve been privileged to work in community development, primarily facilitating teacher training and working with children aged 0–3. Over the past six years, I’ve served at Ma’s Vir Wellington, working with at-risk children aged 3–5. My background in Early Childhood Development provided a professional foundation, but it is the Spirit of God who gave me something greater: the capacity to love with a big heart.

Though I do not have biological children of my own, I now understand that God has given me more children to love. I continue to ask God to stretch my capacity and territory to love and serve even more.

This ministry is not easy—it never has been. But God continues to strengthen us. In this new season, He has given me a powerful word of encouragement and direction:

Ezekiel 3:8–9

“Behold, I will make your face as hard as their faces, and your forehead as hard as their foreheads. I will make your forehead like a diamond, harder than flint. Do not be afraid of them or dismayed at their presence, even though they are a rebellious house.”

This scripture reminds me that boldness, clarity, and faithfulness to God’s voice are critical in this season. The work is hard—but we are not afraid. God has made us resilient, like diamond.

I also hold close the scripture that grounds us at Ma’s Vir Wellington—one we all know and try to live by:

Proverbs 3:4–6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

As I look ahead, I’m deeply encouraged by the strong, committed team that surrounds me. I am not building alone. We are a united force—leaders, staff, volunteers, and partners—each called and equipped for such a time as this. God has faithfully raised up a team of people who carry the same heart for healing, restoration, and dignity. I will be taking hands with these passionate leaders and trusted partners to build this organization further—stronger, deeper, and more rooted in His purpose.

Together, we will continue to create safe spaces, bring light to dark places, and offer lasting change in the lives of the vulnerable. With your support, and by God’s grace, we will see this vision flourish.

We build with Him—otherwise, everything is in vain.

To our supporters, staff, and wider community: thank you for standing with us. Your prayers, generosity, and encouragement carry us forward. Please continue to journey with us, believe with us, and build with us.

The harvest is ready—and God is moving.

In His love and strength,

Salomé Langmann

Ascension Day – A special moment for our preschool children and Disabled Adults ministry.

It is a truly special time in our ministry—a day when we remember the powerful moment Jesus returned to His Father in heaven after His resurrection. To help our preschool children understand this beautiful event, we shared the story in a way that was visual, interactive, and filled with wonder. We gathered and gently read the Scripture from John 20:17, where Jesus says:

“Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

The children stood quietly, listening with wide eyes and open hearts. To bring the story to life, we enacted the scene from the Bible. One of our volunteers dressed as Jesus, and as we told the story, two more volunteers appeared as angels in white, just like in the story from Acts 1. The angels explained to the children that Jesus had gone to heaven, but one day He will return.

To help the children visualize the Ascension, we released brightly coloured helium balloons into the blue sky. We explained that just like the balloons go up into the sky, Jesus also rose into heaven—not with a balloon, but by the power of God. There was a moment of awe as they watched them float higher and higher, and many of them pointed and shouted with excitement, saying things like, “Jesus is going up!”

This simple act helped them connect emotionally and spiritually with the story of the Ascension. It was not just a Bible story anymore—it became something they could see and feel. We reminded the children that even though Jesus went up to heaven, He did not leave us alone. He sent the Holy Spirit to be with us always, to help us and guide us every day. We closed our time with a short prayer and a song thanking Jesus for His love and promise to return.

This day was filled with joy, learning, and spiritual wonder. May we continue to plant seeds of faith in these young hearts—seeds that will grow strong as they learn to follow Jesus. We pray that these little hearts continue to grow in faith and feel the love of Jesus all around them.

Praying for the Nations – Taiwan Focus

This month in the Avodah program, our members continued their journey of praying for the nations. Each week, we pray for a different country—asking that its people would come to know and believe in Jesus Christ. We also pray for the leaders of these countries, that they would lead with wisdom and care, and for the missionaries who are sharing the gospel, asking God to protect and strengthen them.

Through multisensory therapy, we introduced them to the culture and beauty of Taiwan. We learned more about Taiwan’s people, traditions, food, and culture through a simple presentation. We also enjoyed a fun art activity—using paint and wine corks to make cherry blossom designs on traditional straw hats. These creative moments bring a lot of joy and have a relaxing effect on our members.

It’s wonderful to see how our members support each other, enjoy learning, and express themselves through individual conversations and art. We are so thankful for the amazing daily meals that nourish their bodies, and for the safe, loving environment we share. We truly love this special group and thank God for the opportunity to work with each one of them.

It is a beautiful sight to walk through the community and receive positive feedback from parents about children who were once part of our programme and are now excelling in primary school. Teachers at larger schools often ask students where they attended preschool, and when the children share, parents reach out to thank us for our hard work. Moments like these remind us that the energy and effort we invest are not in vain.

It truly warms our hearts to see our former learners eagerly attending school, especially knowing that many children in our community unnecessarily stay out of school. Through our outreach efforts, we continually encourage parents to ensure their children receive the education they deserve.
