Registered at WCED

We are registered!

At Ma’s vir Wellington, our mission is inspired by 1 Peter 5:2:
“To tend the flock of God – willingly, eagerly, and cheerfully through nurture, guarding, guidance, and love.”

This scripture emphasizes good stewardship of what God has entrusted to us. With a commitment to good governance, hard work, and collaboration with various municipal departments, we are proud to announce that the Ma’s vir Wellington Grade RR Preschool has successfully registered with the Western Cape Department of Education.

On July 25th, the WCED organized a Big ECD Drive and brought together all the Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in the Drakenstein area for a discussion on registration requirements, standards, and the crucial role different stakeholders play in ensuring that children are enrolled in safe and nurturing environments.

More than 150 schools from Drakenstein and surrounding areas participated in the event. We were privileged to receive our registration certificate alongside two other schools in Vanwyksvlei.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Desmoray Prins from the Municipality of Drakenstein, Janine Koeglenberg and Leretsene Nkguni from the WCED, and Bonita Daniels and her team from TEEC for their invaluable assistance and support throughout this process.

making a way

Making a way for Josua…

We want to testify to God’s goodness in *Josua’s life. Due to financial reasons, Josua couldn’t complete his education at the Worcester School for the Deaf. At 14, he returned home to his family, one of twelve children. His journey was marked by a protective family structure, but also a life where he, as a young boy, was targeted by gangs. We were able to help his parents by acting quickly and enlisting the help of Walking on Water Ministries, who works with similar cases in the Prison Ministry. *Josua enjoyed our group’s activities as a young boy because he was part of a community where he felt he belonged and received love. Despite his hearing impairment, he was very helpful and high functioning, making him a valuable asset to our group, where many members needed assistance. As *Josua grew older, we trusted the Lord for a job where he could be mentored and eventually earn a salary. After two years, God provided an opportunity at a woodworking company that manufactures kitchen cabinets. *Josua currently goes there one day a week to be mentored in this work. We trust the Lord for a permanent position where he can earn a salary and help support his family. His participation in the group has filled him with so much confidence that he can now play a full role as an independent young man in the community and in his workplace.

Childens Ministry July

The Beginning of Sin and God’s Plan

God has a very high standard, and He created us in His image, but we cannot be like Him. He has sent His son, to be the complete and full sacrifice for our sins.  Salome Palmboompie, and Jacky Spanspekkie, our program presenters, set up a demonstration of an athletics challenge to meet very high standards to show how good, and strong and fit they are. They couldn’t meet the high standards. Children understood that only Jesus was perfect, and we cannot beat God’s standard. The children made a medal to understand that I can only meet God’s standard though Jesus.

Sin is a big concept for 3–4-year-olds to understand. Our team set up a play with Adman, Eve and a snake, to illustrate that Satan wanted to be like God. The snake convinced Eve that by eating the forbidden fruit, they will be like God. Sin entered God’s perfect garden. The children made their own trees and snakes to take home, to tell parents more about how sin entered the world. Sin is being disobedient to God’s Word.

Finally, we emphasized that even one sin can make a difference. The children helped us to bake a cake, with one rotten egg, which spoiled the whole batch. Our children were able to bake delicious cookies as a practical activity. At developmental level, we particularly emphasize fine motor development, which is very important for writing in the ‘big’ school.

In the end the children understood that sin binds us. It keeps us in bondage and acts like chains to keep us from being free. The Good News is: Jesus saves us from our sins, we need to only ask Him, and the chains will fall off.

Children learned how to cut on a straight line by making small chains to take home.

This month we focused ons small motor development. All activities done was to help children strengthening their thumb and index finger, by cutting, rolling pasting and picking up small objects.

Foundation of of good early beginnings

From early beginnings in our Children’s Ministry to Boland Athletics and beyond!

Chergeo joined our Children’s Ministry as a bright-eyed boy at the age of three and remained with us until he was six. Through this program, a strong foundation was established in his life, fostering his development and setting him on a path of success. Now, at 13 and in grade 7 at Noord-Eind Primary School, Chergeo’s achievements are a testament to the positive impact of our ministry.

This year, Chergeo shone during the athletic season, earning a place on the Boland athletic team for the 100m event. His dedication and talent also led to his selection for the Western Province U13 rugby team, with the exciting opportunity to compete in Pretoria during the upcoming school holiday season. Additionally, Chergeo is a valuable member of his school’s student council, exemplifying leadership and responsibility.

Chergeo is a beautiful boy with good manners and a steady character. His journey from our Children’s Ministry to his current accomplishments fills us with pride and joy, reaffirming the importance of nurturing and supporting our young ones.

Madiba 2024

Celebrating Madiba Day…

Madiba Day was a truly remarkable occasion, bringing together a community of compassionate individuals and organisations dedicated to serving those in need. Pauw Gedenk Primêr contributed to the celebrations by donating non-perishable food items collected from the school’s parents, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to supporting the needy within the community. As part of their activities, they prepared and distributed soup to the homeless in their vicinity. This year, they chose to support Ma’s for Wellington, as some of the children who previously participated in our programs are now enrolled in their school. This choice reflects the parents’ deep desire to bless others in the community despite their own limited resources.

Additionally, Vegtech Netafim’s generous food donations on Madiba Day highlighted their support and commitment to our mission, which we deeply appreciate. Partnering with such a caring company is truly a blessing.

DGB (Pty) Ltd Wellington’s thoughtful donation of food has significantly impacted the families of our children, providing much-needed relief and support.

Physiotherapist Janika Harley from Potgieter & Partners Physiotherapy spent her 67 minutes on Madiba Day with our disabled group, offering her expertise and compassion to make a world of difference in their lives. She is currently treating two of our members who urgently need help due to their struggles with dystrophy.

Finally, we are deeply grateful to Basson Blackburn Attorneys for their generous donation of nutritious food, which has blessed our beneficiaries and furthered our mission to make a difference.

Together, these efforts illustrate the powerful impact of community solidarity and highlight the meaningful change we can achieve when we come together to support those in need.
