Testimony by the social worker at Ma's vir Wellington

A soft touch

As I look back on the year that has passed, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the people I have worked with in my role as a social worker at Ma’s for Wellington. It’s incredible to relive these memories, and words seem insufficient to describe their true magnitude. The experiences I’ve had have made me aware of how God’s providence impacts our lives in the most meaningful ways. At Ma’s for Wellington, I realize that it is not about us but about the people who need help. I see people who are desperate, hungry, and in urgent need—not just physically but also spiritually and emotionally.

As an organization, we are planted by living water, and that water must, according to God’s command, flow into the community and address the challenges of the people where He has placed us. We are here to share the love of God with people who do not know Him and who need Him so much—not just the people I work with.

I ask the Lord if I am on the right path and if I am good enough to make that meaningful connection with a mother whose child is in our program. A mother who needs someone to touch her gently, look into her eyes, and say: “You are not alone. I hear you, I see you, and I am here for you.” There are many tears, and I believe that a mother’s tears are never in vain. I see how the Lord carefully collects every tear in a golden bowl, and those tears are immortalized in His love and care.

I think of *L’s mother and the journey I have walked with her—how desperate she was and how she no longer knew which direction to take. How the environment and the other mothers were unfriendly towards her, and how I walked with her and *L until the dark cloud over her began to lift. I comforted a little girl through the difficulties and filthy circumstances and kissed her on the cheek. It is not always easy to make a gentle connection with our people, but that is where Ma’s for Wellington makes a difference. It is about living out God’s unconditional love, and that it is not about us, but about them.

We must always remain on our knees before the Lord, asking Him to guide us and teach us what to say, when to remain silent, and when to gently touch someone. I am full of hope for the future and believe that God will bring new opportunities every day to reveal His love and care to those who need it most.
