Children’s Ministry
Shining God’s Light in Little Hearts
In our Children’s Ministry, we believe that every child deserves to know how deeply they are loved by God. Many of the little ones who join us come from difficult backgrounds—where poverty, gang violence, and neglect are part of daily life. But here, they encounter something different: the light of Jesus shining into their hearts.
In March, we explored the story of Adam and Eve to help the children understand where sin comes from. We learned that sin entered the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. And just like them, we all make mistakes. But the beauty of God’s story is in the Good News—that His love and forgiveness through Jesus sets us free!
To make the lesson even more memorable, we did a fun experiment with toothpaste—once it’s out of the tube, you can’t put it back in! This illustrated how our words work the same way. Once spoken, they can’t be taken back, which is why God calls us to speak with kindness, love, and wisdom.
As we grow in God’s Word together, we remind our little ones:
“Ogies om God se skepping te sien, oortjies om Sy stem te hoor. Dankie, Here, vir alles wat U gemaak het!”
We teach the children that God’s Word is like batteries in a flashlight—it gives power and brings light into the darkest places. His truth gives us strength, even in difficult times.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23
But Jesus made a way for us! His love covers our sins, and through Him, we can shine His light wherever we go.
May His Word encourage and strengthen you today!

Preschool Highlights
At our preschool, we engage in a variety of activities that promote learning, development, socialization, and emotional growth. We place a strong focus on helping our children build essential social skills, such as learning to share, take turns, and express themselves in healthy ways.
To wrap up the month of March, we explored two fun and engaging themes: Shapes & Colours and Animals. These themes gave our children the chance to learn through creative expression and hands-on experiences. During our Shapes & Colours theme, the children explored art and creative play, which helped develop both their fine and gross motor skills through activities like drawing, cutting, and imaginative play. One of the highlights was a fun experiment where the children made their own sandwiches using a plastic knife with butter and jam — a small but important skill that not all children learn at home.
In line with our Animals theme, the children learned about the various insects and animals they might see in gardens or during outdoor play. They enjoyed a fun activity where they coloured their own bees and ladybugs. To create the spots on the ladybugs, they used corks dipped in black paint — an activity that sparked lots of joy and creativity!
We also hosted our final parent engagement session for this term. It is so important to help our parents understand the basic principles of discipline. Our team want to come along side parents, and ensure discipline skills at the school are understood, and to encourage parents to discipline out of a place of love to establish values, rather than punishing for unwanted/ naughty behaviour.
Collaboration with HearXFoundation: HearXfoundation conducted vision and hearing screenings for our children. These screenings are a valuable resource for both teachers and parents, helping us identify any concerns early on to ensure each child has the best opportunity to thrive.
We’re grateful for a wonderful first term and look forward to more learning, laughter, and growth in the months ahead!
Avodah: A Place to Belong, A Place to Grow
Our Avodah group continues to be a place where each member feels safe, seen, and deeply loved. It’s more than just a weekly gathering—it’s a space where our members know they belong, where they are encouraged, and where they are reminded of their value in God’s eyes.
One of the most beautiful parts of our time together is diving into the Bible and discovering God’s heart and plan through different stories. Recently, we explored the story of the walls of Jericho, learning how God’s power brings down even the strongest walls in our lives. We also learned that God is our strong tower—a safe place where we can run when we are afraid or uncertain. As we spoke about Abraham, we were reminded that faith means trusting God even when we cannot see what lies ahead. These truths speak deeply to our members and give them hope and courage for each day.
Beyond Bible lessons, we also take time to open our hearts to the world around us. This month, we “visited” different countries—Mexico, Japan, and India. Through crafts, songs, food, and learning about animals and cultures, we explored what life is like in these nations. We prayed that Jesus would shine His light and save the people of these lands, believing that our prayers make a difference.
In Avodah, our members grow not only in skills and creativity but in faith and love. Here, they are reminded again and again: You are not forgotten. You are part of God’s story. You are deeply loved.
A Testimony of Hope – Stacey*
Stacey* is a bright and spontaneous child, always wearing a smile. At times, she sits quietly, deep in thought, but she never quarrels with other children. In class, she answers questions beautifully.
When you look at little Stacey*, you would never imagine her life at home. Her mother struggles with addiction and often leaves Stacey* and her sister at their grandmother’s house for days without food, or clean clothes. Yet, amidst these difficulties, there is hope—her father picks her up from school, and he is trying to build a better life for his daughters. Stacey* remains dedicated to her education, with excellent school attendance, proving her resilience and determination.
The Joy of Seeing Our Children Thrive
It is a beautiful sight to walk through the community and receive positive feedback from parents about children who were once part of our program and are now excelling in primary school. Teachers at larger schools often ask students where they attended preschool, and when the children share, parents reach out to thank us for our hard work. Moments like these remind us that the energy and effort we invest are not in vain. It truly warms our hearts to see our former learners eagerly attending school, especially knowing that many children in our community unnecessarily stay out of school. Through our outreach efforts, we continually encourage parents to ensure their children receive the education they deserve.
From Tears to Triumph: A Little Star’s Journey
At the beginning of the term, little *Daniel (3) came to our Supersterre program (our program for 3-4-year-olds) feeling scared and unsure.
He had tears in his eyes as he held onto his dad, not wanting to be left in a room full of strangers—50 kids and 20 adults he didn’t know.
Everything was new and overwhelming for him, and he was hesitant to join in on activities without his parent by his side.
But things started to change—God’s love was at work.
With patient encouragement, loving guidance, and a warm, welcoming environment, Daniel began to find his place.
Our dedicated Tannie-Mammas and staff took to heart the mission to “Tend (nurture, guard, guide, and fold) the flock of God that is [our] responsibility – willingly, eagerly, and cheerfully” (1 Peter 5:2). Through reassurance, gentle support, and consistent routines, they created a safe space where Daniel could grow.
Slowly but surely, he started to enjoy playing, learning, and interacting with the other children.
His tears turned into smiles and laughter as the weeks went by. Now, at the end of the term, Daniel confidently walks into Supersterre, eager for the day ahead.
He no longer waits anxiously for his dad to return but instead embraces the fun, friendships, and learning opportunities in front of him.
What made the difference? Love. God’s love was shown through patient hands, warm hearts, and gentle encouragement that reminded him he was never alone and that he was capable of doing things on his own.
At Supersterre, we don’t just offer a program—we create a place where children feel the warmth of His love and grow in joy, confidence, independence, and faith.
Daniel’s journey is just one of many, showing that with God’s love, fear fades, courage grows, and little hearts can shine bright!
As Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” — Matthew 19:13-14, NIV.
