Daisy Day 2025: Let Hope Grow

Daisy Day is always a highlight in the life of Ma’s vir Wellington, and this year was no exception. Rooted in our mission to celebrate the unique gifts of people with intellectual disabilities, Daisy Day reminds us to focus not on limitations, but on abilities — and to help each person flourish in the way God created them.

Under this year’s theme, “Let Hope Grow,” our week was filled with community outreaches, relationship-building, and prayer. Together, we created space for joy, belonging, and hope. Each of our members was celebrated in a special way, affirming their value and purpose.

At a time when facilities for people with intellectual disabilities are closing their doors, Avodah continues to stand firm as a safe place of acceptance, growth, and meaning. Daisy Day helps us share this vision with the wider community. Through the simple act of buying and wearing a Daisy sticker, individuals across Paarl Valley joined us in planting seeds of hope — and together, we watched our valley bloom with compassion.

The outcome of this year’s Daisy Day was far more than a fundraiser: it was a visible wave of support. Local schools, businesses, and community members wore yellow, shared encouragement online, and proudly carried the message that every person matters. We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood with us — your kindness makes our work possible.

As we close this year’s Daisy Day, our hearts are full of gratitude and hope. Thank you for helping us witness God’s goodness in action.

A Joyful Bocce Finale to Daisy Day

We wrapped up Daisy Day with a burst of laughter, cheering, and rolling bocce balls — joined by our friends from Sunfield Homes. Bocce may be a simple game, but it’s packed with excitement! With each turn, players aimed to land their ball as close as possible to the little target ball, sparking plenty of suspense, celebration, and a few playful rivalries along the way.

What made the day truly special was watching our members shine. With incredible focus and determination, they showed off their hidden talents — proving that accuracy and skill aren’t limited by challenges. The competitive spirit was alive and well, but so was the joy of sportsmanship, encouragement, and team pride.

More than just a game, bocce gave our athletes the chance to grow in confidence, build coordination, and, most importantly, strengthen bonds of friendship across facilities. It was a beautiful reminder that when we play together, we grow together.

Testimony: An Answer to a Mother’s Prayer: Desreé and Lee-Ann’s Journey of Hope

Two years ago, Desreé heard Avodah being featured on Radio KC. At that time, she was desperately searching for a place where her daughter, Lee-Ann—who has Down Syndrome—could belong. There was no permanent placement available for her at APD in Paarl, and Desreé began to pray and fast, asking the Lord to open a door for Lee-Ann to join a program for intellectually disabled adults.

God answered her prayer. Today, Lee-Ann is part of the Avodah family, where she learns, creates, and is loved for who she is. For Desreé, this has been life-changing. It allows her a few hours each day to attend Bible study, do her shopping, or clean her home—simple things that are often impossible when caring full-time for a special needs child.

Life has not been easy for them. After being evicted from their home in Paarl, they now live in a small temporary house in New Orleans Park without permanent water or toilets, waiting for their HOP home from the Drakenstein Municipality. Yet, through all these challenges, Desreé remains deeply grateful. She often shares how thankful she is that God provided Avodah—a safe, loving place for Lee-Ann and a source of hope and support for her as a mother.

Avodah is truly an answer to my prayers,” Desreé says. “It means the world to know that Lee-Ann is cared for, growing, and happy. I can finally breathe again.
